These terms apply when you use lite-type at lite-type.com. lite-type is run by a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"), whose name and postal address are on our contact page. You can reach us at info@mezlasoft.com. By using lite-type you agree to these terms; if you don't, please don't use the site.

The service

lite-type is a typing trainer: Smart Lessons, passages from public-domain books, the alphabet, your profile and the leaderboards. It is free to use, with or without an account, and ads from Google AdSense pay for it (our privacy policy says what Google collects). Some extras may be paid for (Purchases, below), among them Educator, a subscription for anyone who teaches typing (Educators, below).

Your account

You sign in with Google. An account is for one person. Keep your Google account secure: what happens on your lite-type account is your responsibility. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.

Fair play

Please don't:

  • use scripts, bots, macros or other automation to type or to send results;
  • send results you did not type yourself;
  • try to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours, or to overload or disrupt the site;
  • copy or scrape the site's code or content beyond your own personal use;
  • use lite-type for anything unlawful.

We may remove results we believe are not genuine, and suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, telling you why where we can.

Leaderboards

Your username and best results appear on public leaderboards. We may remove an entry we believe is not genuine.

Content

The passages come from books in the public domain. The site's design, code and the rest of its content are ours or our licensors', and you may use them only to use lite-type.

Your snippets

With Ad-free or Educator you can add texts of your own to type. Add only texts you have the right to use: your own writing, or text you may copy. Your snippets are private: only you see them, and an Educator's students see one only in a lesson step. We may delete a snippet that breaks these terms or the law, and we delete hidden snippets three months after a paid status ends, and every snippet with its account.

Purchases

Paid extras, such as Ad-free, are sold by Onelink, Stripe's merchant of record service, which takes the payment, charges any tax and gives payment support under its own terms, shown at checkout. Prices include tax. A purchase belongs to the account it was bought on: it cannot be moved to another account, and it ends when that account is deleted. Refunds follow our refund policy.

Educators

Educator is a subscription for teachers and anyone who runs a typing class, sold by Onelink as other purchases are (Purchases, above). It has two plans: £2 a month, or £15 a year (£1.25 a month), tax included. Either renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel, at the price shown on the site before the renewal. While you are an Educator, the free trial included, you can keep up to 10 active classes of up to 50 students each; once a payment has been taken you see no ads.

The first 30 days are free, once per account: an account that has never been an Educator gets the free trial, and any other pays from the day it subscribes. Stripe asks for your card when the trial starts, emails you 7 days before it ends, and takes the first payment on its last day unless you cancel before then. During the trial every Educator feature works, but you still see ads, and at most 30 emails with students' links can be sent across your classes; printing sign-in cards and copying links have no limit.

You can cancel at any time with "Manage subscription" on the Educator panel's Subscription page. Cancelled during the trial, Educator lasts until the trial's last day and nothing is charged; cancelled after a payment, it lasts until the end of the month or year you paid for and does not renew. The same page switches plans: monthly to yearly at once, with the unused part of the month credited, and yearly to monthly at the end of the year you paid for.

The law gives you 14 days to cancel a contract made online. By ticking the box when you subscribe you ask for Educator to start at once, within those 14 days; you can still cancel in them, and as the trial is free, cancelling during it costs nothing.

By subscribing you agree to these terms for your students:

  • You add students only for your school, or for a class you run yourself, and you have the consent that your school, the law where you are, or a student's parent or guardian requires, in particular for any student under 13.
  • For your students' data, you, or the school you act for, decide what is kept and why, and we process it on your behalf as your data processor: only to run your classes, only as you instruct us through the panel, and as our privacy policy describes. Our Privacy for schools pages hold the data processing agreement, which is part of these terms.
  • We never ask for students' names, and you agree not to put names or other personal details in a class's name, which its students see too. A seat's email is optional: add one only when you may give it to us, so that you can send that student their link.
  • Keep your educator code and your students' links to your classes. You are responsible for how your students use lite-type, under the same fair play rules as everyone (Fair play, above). Students never appear on the leaderboards.

If a payment fails, Educator keeps working while Stripe tries again. When the subscription ends, because you cancelled, the trial ended unpaid or a payment could not be taken, your students can no longer sign in and you see ads. Your classes, their students, their emails and their results are kept for three months, then deleted; subscribing again before then gives everything back as it was. Deleting your account cancels the subscription at once, without a refund, and deletes your classes and students with it. Refunds follow our refund policy.

Changes to the service

We work to keep lite-type running, but it is provided as it is, and we cannot promise it will always be available or free of faults. We may change, add or remove features. We will say so on the site before a change that significantly affects you or something you paid for, and at least 30 days before we ever stop offering lite-type.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or of our negligence, but not for loss that is not foreseeable. lite-type is for personal use, so we are not responsible for business losses. Our total responsibility to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and £50.

Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit, and nothing in them affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top changes too, and we will say so on the site before a significant change takes effect. Using lite-type after that means you accept the new terms.

Law and disputes

The laws of England and Wales apply to these terms, and you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales, or of Scotland or Northern Ireland if you live there. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of its consumer laws. If something goes wrong, please email us first so that we can try to put it right.
