The 29 letters and their names

Turkish has 23 of the 26 letters of English (no q, w or x) and six of its own: ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü. Dotted i and dotless ı are two letters, with the capitals İ and I. Under each letter is its Turkish name, then how to say it, with the stressed syllable in capitals. Ğ, yumuşak ge or "soft g", is never said on its own: it lengthens the vowel before it.

Typing ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü on a US or UK keyboard

On Windows, United States-International types ö and ü (" then the vowel) and ç (AltGr and comma), but not ğ, ı or ş, so it cannot finish the Turkish alphabet. Add Turkish Q: QWERTY with the six letters to the right of L, P and M, where the I key types dotless ı and dotted i sits to the right of L. On a Mac, ABC – Extended types all six, each as a mark and then the letter.

On a Turkish keyboard

Windows: Turkish Q · macOS: Turkish-QWERTY · Linux: Turkish

Add it in Windows under Settings > Time & language > Language & region, in macOS under System Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources, in Linux under Settings > Keyboard > Input Sources.

On a US or UK keyboard

Windows: United States-International · macOS: ABC – Extended · Linux: English (US, intl., with dead keys)

Add it the same way. On US-International ' and " become dead keys: type a space after one for the mark itself.
